Privacy Policy — My Notes – Notebook

What we collect

Nothing. The app collects no personal data and sends nothing to us. There is no sign-up, no login, no profile and no email address. We have no server, and we receive no notebooks, photos, drawings or usage information. We cannot see what you write.

No tracking, no advertising, no analytics

• No advertising and no ad networks.
• No tracking or tracking permission request, and no advertising identifier (IDFA).
• No analytics, usage measurement or crash-reporting service.
• No third-party software development kits that gather data. The app uses one open-source component, GRDB, which is a database that runs entirely on your iPhone and makes no network connections.

What is stored on your iPhone

Everything you make lives in the app's own private storage on your device: your pages and what is written on them, topics, photos you add, Camera photos, Moments (their still image and a few seconds of silent video), drawings, paper and type settings, and where you last left off.

The app also remembers two small preferences on the device: your Appearance choice and your last pen and highlighter settings. They contain nothing you have written.

If you use iPhone backups (iCloud Backup or a computer), your notebook is included in those backups, the same as other app data. Those backups are handled by Apple or your computer, not by us.

Camera and photos

• Camera. Used only while you are taking a Camera photo or recording a Moment. A Moment is silent: the app never uses the microphone and records no audio. Photos and Moments are saved into your notebook on the device.
• Choosing a photo. The app uses Apple's photo picker, so it never gets access to your photo library. It receives only the single picture you choose, and it copies it into your notebook without changing it.
• Saving a shared page. When you tap Save Image or Save Video, iOS asks for permission to add to your photo library. That permission lets the app add the item and nothing else — it still cannot read your library.
• Photos and Moments are never uploaded anywhere by the app, except inside Shared Pages below, and only for the pages you share.

Shared Pages (iCloud)

You can share one topic of your notebook, or make a shared notebook, with someone you invite. This is the only feature that moves your content off the device, and only for what you share.

• Sharing uses your own iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit. The content is stored in the app's iCloud container under your account and is visible only to you and the people you invite. We cannot read it; we have no access to your iCloud data.
• Only the topic or notebook you chose is sent: its pages, what is written on them, its photos, Moments and drawings, its title and its paper and type settings. Your other topics and pages are never sent, and the people you invite cannot reach them.
• Shared items carry an identifier of which participant added them, so a shared notebook can tell the two people apart. It is an Apple-provided identifier for your account within this app; it is not your name, email or phone number.
• Invitations are sent through Apple's own sharing screen. The app does not read your contacts. Apple shows you and the other person each other's iCloud names for what you share together.
• When you stop sharing, the shared copy is removed from iCloud and the other person loses access. Your own copy stays in your notebook.
• Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's privacy policy.

Sending a page to another app

Share Page makes an image or a short video of one page. It is created on your device and goes only where you send it using the iOS share sheet — for example Messages or Instagram. Once you send it to another app, that app's own privacy policy applies.

Keeping and deleting your data

• Your notebook stays on your device until you delete it. We keep nothing, so there is nothing for us to delete or to ask us to delete.
• To delete everything on the device: delete the My Notes app from your iPhone. That removes the notebook, its photos, Camera photos, Moments and drawings stored by the app.
• Shared content: stop sharing a topic or notebook to remove the shared copy from iCloud. For something shared with you that has ended, use Remove from This iPhone to delete your copy. iCloud content can also be managed in Settings under your Apple Account.
• Backups: if a backup was made while the app was installed, your notebook is inside that backup until the backup is deleted or replaced, in iPhone Settings.

Children

The app is not aimed at children, and it collects no data from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If the app's privacy behaviour changes, this page is updated before or with the release that changes it, and the date at the top changes too.
